Confirmation e-mail

After e-mailing the band I have chosen for my project, I received a swift response, which suggests the band are eager to receive any help they can in publicising their music. The band were very supportive also, as seen in the evidence e-mail below and agreed for me to use their material for my project. It was not this time necessary, for me to determine whether or not the band were unsigned as I had already established this through the website - http://www.unsigned.com/

Mood Board Part 1 (title; similar artists)

I have begun to construct a mood board to which will show in detail the different aspects of both the band I have chosen and my music video I will produce. I intend to do so using different aspects of the genre, i.e. costume, location, intertextual references etc.
I began the mood board with a simple but bold title of the bands name. This allows anyone reading to immediately recognise what the mood board and its content is about.

The first content I displayed on my mood board was of bands I recognised as similar to 'The 99's' These included the popular, mainstream groups; Two Door Cinema Club, Foster The People and Noah And The Whale. All of these artists are labelled within the 'indie pop' genre, which I feel bests suits the band I have chosen for this project. Whilst listening to the song I have chosen, I was constantly thinking about how similar the track was to several of the songs produced by these bands.

I plan to soon expand the content by researching into location and costume. These important aspects of the video will prove vital in determining the success of my project and I feel that displaying potential ideas onto a mood board will allow me to choose more easily without making a rash decision because lots of research and effort will have gone into finding suitable material for my video.

New Band - The 99's

Unfortunately the band 'Eight legs' whom I was originally going to use as the artist for my project, were signed by a record label during this process. Because I had already started planning my video, there was a possibility that I could have continued and gone ahead with 'Eight legs', however, I chose to start over as I feel I would gain more from sticking exactly to the course criteria and I feel as though this obstacle I have struck represents a real life scenario; there are bound to be plenty of situations in life where I am going to have to work around the problem in order to solve it and this example will give me good experience for these likely situations.

Due to the unexpected problems with the band I was originally going to use, I worked hard to find another band that met the criteria for my project. After some thorough research into a similar target audience as my original, I have found what I feel is the perfect band. This band is 'The 99's'

The 99's
Founded in
Saddleworth, Manchester
Sun kissed melodies

The song I will be using by this band is called '(what a night) to be alive'. I came across this band and their track on one of the above websites and after consuming thier music I immediately felt that they were the band for me.
Although somewhat similar in genre to my original song I was going to use, I feel that the song possesses a slightl more light 'sun kissed melody' feel. This genre is again extremely popular amongst the current UK teen market. The song, in my opinion, is quite alike to tracks from bands such as 'Noah and the whale', 'Foster the people' and 'Two door cinema club'. All of which have proven extremely successful in recent times within the UK. I also feel that some of the bands other songs that I have listened to strike an uncanny resemblence to 'The Beatles' - arguably the greatest band in history.
